Shape Solution: How to lengthen your torso
TIPS FOR THE SHORT-WAISTED, HOW TO LENGTHEN YOUR TORSO:Ā
Meet Kristin.,Ā Brand Manager
“I’m all legs.Ā I need help elongating my short torso and balancing my shoulders.”
Work Wear:Ā
- Ā By adding a belt to this outfit and leaving the shirt un-tucked, we put emphasis on the narrowness of Kristinās waist, while simultaneously creating the illusion of a longer torso.
- Ā The straight skirt pencil accentuates the natural curve of the hip and thigh.Ā The A-line is another option; its silhouette is universally flattering, regardless of body type.Ā In this case, it would balance the hip without adding too much volume.
- Ā By using two contrasting colors (like gray on top and black on the bottom), you can create a distinct waistline, and that serves to emphasize an already-narrow waist
- Ā Keep the lighter of the two colors on top and darker, more neutral colors on the bottom.Ā This keeps the visual focus up on the face and torso while balancing the body shape overall.
- Interesting necklines such as the cowl neck also helps draw the eye upwards.
Weekend Wear:Ā
- To trick the eye, pair the pant with a patterned top.Ā The focus becomes the upper half of the body.
- Use length to balance width.Ā If you carry weight on your bottom half of your body, wear longer pieces on top to balance the bottom half and to look leaner.
- Ā A single-breasted topper coat with vertical seaming creates a long, straight line by camouflaging the hip area.
- Ā Wear the coat open to create a long vertical column down the front of your body, very slimming.
- Add accent pieces to draw the eye up.
